Skybridge
Key Challenges
Three years ago, Skybridge had a rudimentary database that had the basic business systems running through it, but the company was experiencing enormous growth and with most processes manually driven with paperwork, managing the communication and service between hundreds of technicians and customers was becoming increasingly difficult and frustrating.

Glen Makin, Managing Director
Director's Opinion
"If I hadn't been working with Digital Tree for the past few years, I estimate that I would currently be employing at least three times as many staff and still would not be achieving the results we do today," said Makin.
"Our turnover has tripled and that can largely be attributed to the work Digital Tree has done for us.
"Initially when we started working with Digital Tree, we didn't realise how far they could take us. We work extremely closely with them and generally I'll come up with an idea and they materialise it - it's made a huge impact on the way we do business, our productivity, profitability and perhaps most importantly, our competitors can't keep up with us.
"We affectionately call our system SIMON (Skybridge Information Management Online Network) because it's so integral to our operations," he said.
"SIMON drives virtually every function of our business - it interfaces with our customers' CRM systems so they can push orders through in real time; through a barcode system it tracks stock in and out of the warehouse; it sends SMS messages and maps to our 400+ technicians so they know what they need to do and exactly where to go; it sends a file to the bank which automatically pays our staff, technicians and suppliers; and we're rolling-out a new application that will enable us to bring anecdotal performance information into our staff's performance appraisals.
"In fact, while our returns increased by a factor of more than five, the accounting function was actually reduced by 60% so that our accounts person only spends one day a week doing the books and SIMON does the rest - that's not bad for a $17 million business!
"Seriously, the technology that Digital Tree develops seems to be limited only by my imagination; it's remarkable.
"Look we spend a lot of money on SIMON and continue to expand his capabilities, but in all honesty, it pays us back 10-fold and gives us a competitive edge that is truly unreplicable," said Makin.

Skybridge's innovative use of information technology has been one of the driving forces for its placement as a finalist in this year's Telstra Business Awards.
